Obituary

George Viet Sr.

Funeral services for George Viet Sr. were held Friday, October 28, at 1:30 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Reformed church. The Rev. Gerald Osland officiated at the service. Interment was in Stout cemetery. Casketbearers were nephews; Reinhard Kalkwarf Jr., Rodney Kendrick, Ben Clapp, Bernerd Viet, Dick Arends and Roland Polan.

George Viet Sr. was born in Beerta, The Netherlands, January 30, 1896, the son of Ben and Jennie Viet and passed away on October 25, 1966, at Allen Memorial hospital, Waterloo, Iowa, at the age of 70 years, 8 months, 25 days.

In May, 1914, at the age of 18 years he immigrated to Grundy county, Iowa. On Dec. 8, 1919, he was united in marriage to Fannie Berends at the parsonage of the Pleasant Valley Reformed church by Rev. Siemsen. They farmed in Beaver and Fairfield townships until 1948, when he began doing carpenter work. In 1950 they moved to Stout where they have lived since. He was a member of the Pleasant Valley Reformed church.

He is survived by his widow; a sister, Mrs. Joe Clapp Sr., Reinbeck; six children, Ben of West Union, Martha, Mrs. Herman Van Hauen, Wellsburg, George Jr. of Dike, Herman, Reinbeck, Jennie, Mrs. Louis Bakker, Dike, and Elisabeth, Mrs. Joe Clapp Jr. of Reinbeck, also by 25 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Hilko and John, and infant son, and one grandchild.
