Olive Ruth Sword

Olive Ruth VanDyke Sword, 89, of Ackley, Iowa, died Saturday, May 14, 2005, at Presbyterian Village in Ackley.

Mrs. Sword was a homemaker and a member of Ivester Church of the Brethren.

The funeral will be at 5 p.m. Saturday at Ivester Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Tim Button-Harrison officiating. Calling will be from 4 p.m. until service time Saturday at Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, Iowa. Burial will be at Sheller Cemetery.

Born in Buckeye Township, Kan., July 24, 1915, Mrs. Sword was the daughter of Allen Brown and Mary Zug VanDyke. She married Charlie Earl Sword March 21, 1934, at Sabetha, Kan.

Survivors include a daughter, Nona Ruth Sword Steinbrink of Smithville, Mo.; a son, Earl Duane Sword of Columbus; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a son, Allen Brandt Sword.
