Strickler--Maria Miller was born in Franklin county, Pennsylvania, Feb. 9, 1829, and died at Grundy Center, Iowa, Oct. 23, 1902, aged 73 years, 6 months and 14 days.

In 1848 she moved with her parents to Carroll county, Ill., where she was married to Henry P. Strickler Dec. 24, 1850. There came to bless this union ten children, five sons and five daughters. Three of the daughters preceded the mother to the spirit world. She leaves a husband and five sons, Benjamin, Will, Jacob, Daniel and Oliver, and two daughters, Etta M. Jones of Grundy Center and Edith Brouse of Eaton, Ohio, besides brothers and sisters. Two of the sons, Jacob and Oliver, are in Sonora, Mexico; one, William, is in Alaska, and Benjamin is at St. Louis, Mo. It was impossible for these boys to get the news of the mother's death in time to be present at the funeral.

In the spring of 1867 the family moved to Melrose township, Grundy county, Iowa, where they lived until 1889 when they moved to Texas. After four years residence in that state they returned to Grundy county and here they spent the remaining years until death came to separate husband and wife who had shared life's joys and sorrows for almost 52 years.

Deceased united with the Brethren church in 1856. During the 46 years of her life in the church she was not only a consistent member but with her husband in all his labor as a deacon and elder in the church she was always ready both to spend and be spent that Christ's name might be honored and the church benefitted. We cannot recall her acts of devotion and sacrifice. They live in the hearts of many who will read this sketch. Her record is on high. May those who knew and loved her emulate her example and may the church be blessed with many more such mothers in Israel.

Funeral services were held from the Ivester Church of the Brethren last Sunday and were conducted by Elder A. P. Blough of Waterloo, Elders C. M. Garner and Silas Gilbert of Grundy Center.
