Rebecca Eisenberger Hess
Rebecca Eisenberger was born in Montgomery County, Penn., Jan. 1, 1834, and passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Robert Kinney, in Grundy County, Jan. 16, 1914, at the age of 80 years and 15 days.
When a mere child she moved with her parents to Hancock county, O., where she grew to womanhood. She was united in marriage Sept. 24, 1857, to Simon A. Reisinger, and to this union were born five children, four of whom are living. One daughter, Mrs. Etta Squires, died April 15, 1898. The surviving children are Mrs. Mary E. McCurdy, Mrs. Angeline Thompson, Mr. David Reisinger, and Mrs. Dell Kinney, all of whom live in Grundy county.
She is also survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. Mary Hess Turner, living near Ivester, and Mrs. Will Norris, of Burt, Iowa. Twenty-two grandchildren, thirty-five great-grandchildren and three sisters are also numbered among the surviving relatives. The sisters are Barbara, Hannah and Susan Haynes, who reside in Indiana.
The family moved to Grundy county in 1876 where the deceased had since resided. Mr. Reisinger passed away Jan. 8, 1890. On Feb. 26, 1891, Mrs. Reisinger was married to Lewis Hess, of this county, and they lived together until Dec. 5, 1907, when death called him.
Mrs. Hess had been a member of the Brethren church for over 60 years.
Funeral services were held at the Church of the Brethren at Ivester Monday at 11 a.m., conducted by Rev. A. H. Blough, of Waterloo, assisted by Rev. Brubaker. The services were attended by a large number of friends and neighbors. The pall bearers were: Henry Sheller, Harry Sheller, Wm Swab, Roy Kennedy, E. E. Wolf and David Myers. Interment was made in Ivester cemetery.
