Former Grundy Woman Dies
Mrs. Frances J. Gilbert, former Grundy Center woman, passed away March 8th at the home of her daughter in California. The remains were brought to Grundy for burial, the funeral service being held yesterday March 14th, at Ivester, at two o'clock. Rev. D. Warren Shock officiated and the remains were laid to rest in the Ivester cemetery.
Obituary
Frances J. Gilbert, daughter of John and Sarah Ressler, was born in Rockingham county, Virginia, Sept. 26, 1844, and passed away at the home of her daughter in California, March 8, 1917, at the age of 72 years, 5 months and 10 days. Her parents moved to Ohio when she was but a baby and she was left an orphan there when five years of age. She was taken into the home of Francis Cotterman near Dayton and lived in that home until her marriage to Silas Gilbert on June 3, 1866.Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert resided in Darke county, Ohio until March, 1895 when they moved to Grundy Center. Mr. Gilbert died Jan. 3, 1910 and this place remained her home until October 1913 when she went to California to live.
To this union eight children were born, two of whom have preceded their mother to the other world, Cora the fifth, dying when but two years old, and Vera, the youngest, passing away in April 1913. The remaining children are Mrs. Rollie Peters, Oren and W. H., all of California, Juinter O., of Michigan; Jennie and Mrs. Cara Brewer of Grundy county.
