Sam Henry Gerloff, age 20, of New Hartford, Iowa, was born the son of Dennis Linn and Bonnie Sue (Schaefer) Gerloff on January 1, 1992, in Waterloo, Iowa. Sam received his education and graduated from Dike-New Hartford High School in 2010, where he participated in wrestling, football and choir.

Sam had always wanted to be a farmer and enjoyed helping many local farmers. He currently was employed with IFCO at the Target Distribution Center in Cedar Falls, as a fork lift operator.

Sam was baptized, confirmed and member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg and also had been active in youth group. He enjoyed hunting, woodworking, riding 4 wheelers and going mudding. He loved hanging out with his friends, especially going to country night in Cedar Falls and cruising University. Perhaps one of his greatest joys was time spent with his family.

Sam died Sunday, September 23, 2012, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Reinbeck, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Henry C. Gerloff; his maternal grandfather, Robert C. Schaefer; and a cousin, Travis Harting.

Sam is survived by his parents, Dennis and Bonnie Gerloff of New Hartford; one brother, Guy Gerloff of New Hartford; three sisters, Suzanne (Kirk) Neuroth of Dike, Iowa, April (Matthew) Kressley of Belle Plaine, Iowa, and Tessa (fiancée, Justin Matherly) Gerloff of Toledo, Iowa; paternal grandmother, Arvilla Gerloff of New Hartford; maternal grandmother, Sue Schaefer of Hudson, Iowa; six nephews and a niece, Connor, Malea and Nickolas Neuroth and Jaxon, Cayden, Derek and Bryer Kressley; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral Services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 27, 2012, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. Burial will be held in Fairfield Township Cemetery, rural New Hartford.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at Bethel Lutheran Church, 701 Third Ave., Parkersburg and will continue for one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Redman-Schwartz Funeral Home in Parkersburg is in charge of arrangements.
