Chas. Biebesheimer Former Wellsburg Banker, Is Dead

Charles Biebesheimer, who was actively engaged in banking in Wellsburg 27 years, died at Los Angeles last Saturday. Death was due to advanced age and complications. He was in his 85th year. Funeral services and burial were in Los Angeles Monday.

Helped Organize First Bank in Wellsburg
Charley Biebesheimer helped to organize the first bank in Wellsburg. One of the chief promoters among the bank organizers was George Wells, who became the bank's president. Charley Biebesheimer was the cashier and the active manager. The institution was named The Wellsburg Savings Bank and operated under that name until 13 years ago. For more than a quarter of a century Charley Biebesheimer was one of the best known and one of the most influential men in this section of the county.

Was Born At Vinton
Charley Biebesheimer was born at Vinton and he grew up there. There were six members of his family and he outlived them all. He received his first training in banking under James Porter at Reinbeck and while he was employed there he was married. He remained at Reinbeck until he was called to the position at Wellsburg.

Left Wellsburg 20 Years Ago
Because of financial difficulties for which he was not held directly to blame, he disposed of his interest in the bank in 1925 and the next year he and his family moved to Los Angeles where they have since lived.

Surviving are the wife and four sons. The sons are Wendell from Hastings, Nebraska, Carl, Harold and John from Los Angeles.

Biebesheimer Dead

Early Wellsburg Banker Is Buried In California

Charles Biebesheimer, 84, first cashier in the first bank organized in 1897 in Wellsburg by George Wells and John Lusch, died at his home in Los Angeles, Calif., Friday, after a lingering illness. He was born in Vinton. He married Yetta Methfessel of Reinbeck. They came to Wellsburg in 1897 and Mr. Biebesheimer became cashier of the bank. Later the bank was reorganized and called the Wellsburg Savings Bank, then he was made president. This bank is now the Peoples Savings Bank.

In 1925 Mr. Biebesheimer went to Los Angeles where he made his home until his death.

Surviving besides his widow, are four sons, Wendell of Hastings , Nebr., and Carl, Harold and John, all of Los Angeles.

Burial was Monday in the Englewood Masonic cemetery in Los Angeles.

Deceased was a nephew of John C. Lusch, banker, grain and elevator man of Ackley, and of August Lusch of Reinbeck, Iowa.
