Mrs. Tena Sherfield

Tena Jutting Sherfield was born May 6, 1891 in Cleves, the daughter of Casper and Trientje Beving Jutting. She was baptized in the East Friesland Presbyterian Church on March 6, 1891 and became a communicant member by profession of faith in Christ Jesus on Nov. 2, 1913.

On Jan. 16, 1918, Tena married Onkie Sherfield in a ceremony at which Rev. Engelke officiated. Three children, Thomas, Raymond and Ruth were born to this marriage. Ruth died in March of 1933 at the age of 11 years.

Mrs. Sherfield was widowed in September of 1956 and continued to live in Ackley, where they had moved in 1946. She entered Eldora Manor in August of 1977 and died in the Eldora Hospital on Jan. 5, 1981 at the age of 89 years, 7 months and 29 days.

Mrs. Sherfield was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Dick, Will, Tetus, Obbe, and Casper; two sisters, Jennie Cobie and Lizzie Flessner; and a daughter. Several sisters had also died in infancy.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas Sherfield of rural Ackley and Raymond Sherfield of Eldora; one brother, John Jutting of Ackley; two sisters-in-law, Ordie Jutting of Ackley and Mrs. Tillie Feeken of Minnesota; a brother-in-law, Herb Henrichs of Minnesota; a grandson, Clarence Sherfield of Ackley; three granddaughters, Debra Greenwood of Dunlap, Marlene Sprain of Council Bluffs and Linda Wiklund of Marshalltown; and three great-granddaughters.

Funeral services were conducted Wed., Jan. 7 at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Dupee officiating. Mrs. Virgil Heetland was organist and singers were Mrs. Dale Heetland and Mrs. Leonard Oelmann. Ushers were Henry V. Janssen and John VanLoh. Pallbearers were Casper Jutting, James Greenwood, Clarence Sherfield, Ronald Kruse, Bruce Sprain and David Wiklund. Interment was in the church cemetery.

The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
