Claimed By Death

Obituary of Mrs. Gerhard Willems

Mrs. Antje Willems, nee Roscamp, was born April 27, 1868, in Landschafts Polder, Germany. At the age of two years she came to America (in 1880) and on Jan. 6th, 1887 was married to Mr. Gerhard Willems. Twelve children were born to this union. An infant son preceded her in death, and her son Claas in 1931. Her death was due to a short illness of complicated diseases.

Survivors are a grief stricken husband and ten children, four sons and six daughters. The daughters are Mrs. W. C. Jutting, Mrs. John J. Beving, Mrs. Louie Schultz, Mrs. John Ross, Mrs. John Jutting and Mrs. Jerry Lutterman. The sons are Bohle, Hannes, George and Jake. Twenty grandchildren also survive. On October 2, 1906 she joined the East Friesland Presbyterian church by making profession of faith in Jesus Christ and remained a faithful communicant member until June 1, 1937, when the Lord summoned her unto her reward at the age of 69 years, 1 month, and 4 days. Rev. F. W. Engelke has charge of the services and the text chosen was II Corinthians, 5 verses-18 to 21.

On January 6, 1937 they had been permitted to live together for fifty years. She spent most of her life in Grundy county; on March 10th, 1937 they retired from the farm and moved to Abbott, Ia., Hardin county. Blessed are the dead that die in the Lord.
