Marie B. Jones

Marie B. Jones, 88, of Ackley, died Saturday, April 20, 1996 at the Presbyterian Village in Ackley.

She was born June 22, 1907 in Hubbard, Iowa, the daughter of W. E. and Mary Jane Mossman Brightwell. She was a 1924 graduate of Hubbard High School and received her teaching degree from Ellsworth College. She taught in rural schools in Hardin County.

On June 22, 1927, she wed John G. Bleeker in rural Hardin County. Following his death, she wed Elmer (Casey) Jones on March 30, 1974 in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico.

Mrs. Jones was a member of the East Friesland Presbyterian Church of Ackley where she'd taught Sunday and Bible school, was a U.P.W. officer, a member of ladies chorus, and the Presbyterial and Synodical Board. In 1966 she was named Mother of the Year by the Ackley P.T.A. She helped organize the first senior citizen's group, the Jolly Elders, in Ackley in 1940. She served on the Ackley Board of Education from 1954 to 1960. In 1964 she received the Silver Clover for 4-H leadership.

She was preceded in death by her first husband and four sisters.

Survivors include: her husband, Casey; one daughter, Ramona Feikes and her husband Fred of Ackley; one son, Darrell Bleeker and his wife Ruth of Steamboat Rock; three step-sons, Ronald Jones of Barrington, Illinois, Dennis Jones of Bath, South Dakota, and Lucian Jones of Littleton, Colorado; one sister, Marjorie McMillen of Ackley; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Services were held Monday, April 22 at East Friesland Presbyterian Church of rural Ackley with Pastor Doug House and Rev. Bruce Baillie officiating. Marcia Beving served as organist accompanying vocalists Arlene Heetland and Marlene Oelmann.

Casketbearers were Virgil Beving, Doug Bleeker, Bernard Cobie, Greg Lindaman, Warren Lindaman, and Leonard Oelmann.

Interment was in the East Friesland Cemetery.

Arrangements were made by the Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home in Ackley.
