Harvey V. Abbas

Harvey V. Abbas of Aplington passed away April 23, 1991 at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. Funeral services were conducted Friday, April 26 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Aplington with Rev. Doug Darnold officiating. Lenee Pollock was organist and soloist was Arlene Mellema. Ushers were Wallace Brouwer and Calvin Kannegieter. Serving as casket bearers were Bob Abbas, Edwin Abbas, George Abbas, Jr., Howard Abbas, Larry Birley and Jacob Sailer. Albert Abbas and Carl Sailer were honorary casket bearers. Interment was in the East Friesland cemetery. The Brandt-Fritz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Harvey V. Abbas, 76, was born December 18, 1914 at Ackley the son of Abel and Lena Heitland Abbas. He attended the country schools near Ackley. On December 14, 1939 he was married to Mildred Fisher at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He was a farmer by occupation. Mr. Abbas was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Aplington where he had served as deacon, trustee, elder and Sunday School teacher.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred; four sons, Harlan Abbas of Latimer, William Abbas of Cedar Falls, Kenneth Abbas of Afton, MN, and Calvin Abbas of Aplington; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, George of Hampton and Leo of Ackley. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Herman, Mel, Joe, Henry, Abel, Reemt, and a sister, Anna Sailer.
