Norma Marie (Murra) Tack, age 78, of Osage, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2015, under hospice care at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 27, 2015, at the United Church of Christ in Osage with Pastor Charles Owens officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Norma was born February 17, 1937, to Abraham and Edith (Gieken) Murra on the family farm north of Wellsburg. Her family only spoke German at home, and her teacher at country school only spoke English. With the help of an eighth grade student, Norma learned English, and her teacher learned German. She finished her education in the Wellsburg School system, graduating high school in 1955. Norma helped her parents on the family farm, and worked for a number of years at a local grocery store, Sentmans Variety Store, before and after her marriage. In 1956 she married Royce Tack, who also is a 1955 Wellsburg graduate. The couple lived in Wellsburg for four years before moving to a farm north of Aplington. In 1968, the family moved to Osage. Norma worked at the Daylight Store, and later opened Vicky Ann’s Fabric Shop with Mary Fisk. After nine years, they closed the store and Norma then worked 10 years at Fleming’s Clothing store until retirement.
Norma was active in her church, Osage United Church of Christ, singing in the choir and solos on many occasions. She served on various church boards, was a member of the Women’s Fellowship and Mayflower circle, and enjoyed hosting the December meeting at her home. Norma loved teaching and helping her granddaughters with their 4-H projects for the county fair. Her joy and delight were her children and their spouses, her grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Norma is survived by her husband, Royce of Osage; their four children, Mark (Christine) Tack of Elkhart, IN, Nancy (Rick) Coles of Ripon, WI, Brenda (Curt) Neff of Cedar Falls, and Lisa (Bruce) Johnson of Osage; 11 grandchildren, Daniel (Ami) Tack, Lindsay (Adam) Turnage, Alan Tack, Michael (Amy) Coles, Sara Coles, Jennifer Coles, Katie Coles, Emily Neff, Shelby (Dan) Schaa, Brooke Johnson, and Tyler Johnson; five great-grandchildren, Riann Coles, Amiah Johnson, Reid Tack, Addalyn Schaa, and Parker Turnage.
Also surviving are her siblings, Marlys (Verle) Bohlen, Clarence (Harriet) Murra, and Duane (Rebecca) Murra all of Wellsburg; and a number of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents; her parents; one grandchild, Megan Schmit; and a granddaughter-in-law, Heidi Tack.
