Jim Aalfs, 64, of Conrad, died Saturday evening, October 27, at the Covenant Hospital in Waterloo while in the care of his family and the Cedar Valley Hospice.

Funeral services celebrating Jim's life will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, November 1, at the Liberty Baptist Church. He will be laid to rest in the Conrad Cemetery. Friends may call at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home from 5-9:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

A memorial fund is being established in his memory for the new building fund for the Liberty Baptist Church of Marshalltown.

The Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown is caring for Jim and his family.

Born on November 10, 1942, in Aplington, Iowa, he was the son of Jake and Angeline (Kuiper) Aalfs. He graduated from the Wellsburg High School. Jim served our country honorably in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966.

On July 22, 1967, he was united in marriage to Ernestine Cook in Marshalltown. They resided in Melbourne until moving to Conrad in 1971. Mr. Aalfs was employed at Swifts for 26 years, did farm help for seven years and worked at Mid-Iowa Co-Op for the past seven years while also raising feeder pigs on the family farm on highway #14. He and Ernestine moved into Conrad in 1995. He was a member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Marshalltown and the Conrad American Legion.

Jim will be fondly remembered for his love of family, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, hunting, bowling, the outdoors, following his boys' sport activities and his faith. He will be greatly missed by many.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 40 years, Ernestine, two sons: Jim W. (Kara) Jr., of St. Charles, IL., and Rick (Paula) of Marshalltown, four grandchildren: Kelsey, Kiersten, Brooke and Jacob, his sisters: Judy (Lee) Reibkes of Wellsburg and Janet (Dan) Wieberdink of Andover, MN., several nieces, nephews, the Cook family and a host of friends.

In death he has rejoined his parents and brothers John and Joe.
