Services Held For Genevieve Powell

Genevieve Powell, 62, of Oskaloosa, passed away Thursday, September 13, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday, September 17, at 10:30 at Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa with Pastor Alvern Boetsma officiating.

Burial was in Forest Cemetery, Oskaloosa.

Genevieve P. Powell, daughter of John M. and Martha Eekhoff Bakker, was born January 15, 1928, in Wellsburg.

On June 27, 1964, Genevieve was united in marriage to Karol A. Powell in Wellsburg.

She was a Registered Nurse, receiving her training at Broadlawns in Des Moines.

Following their marriage, they moved to Oskaloosa and Genevieve worked as a nurse at Mahaska County Hospital, and later at Mahaska Manor Nursing Home, retiring in the early 1980's.

Genevieve was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church and an active member of the Mahaska Quilters Guild.

Genevieve was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Menne, Manley and Herman; and one sister Talea.

She is survived by her husband Karol, of Oskaloosa; two daughters, Susan Powell, Oskaloosa, and Kathy Fictorie, of Minneapolis, MN; and three brothers, Peter and Lee Bakker, both of Wellsburg, and Edwin Bakker, of Steamboat Rock.

A memorial fund has been established.
