Virgil Eberline Services Held

Virgil D. Eberline of Grundy Center passed away Friday, October 22, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes, having attained the age of 69 years, 11 months and 4 days.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 25, at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center at 2 p.m. with Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf officiating.

Pallbearers were Jerry Eberline, Frank Yackey, Sid Slifer, Darwin Engelkes, Eugene Engelkes and Dean Feikes.

Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

A memorial fund has been established.

Virgil was born November 18, 1923, in Pleasant Valley Township, Grundy County, the son of Ford and Rena (DeNeui) Eberline. He received his education at Colfax #3 country school until the 8th grade, then at Wellsburg High School where he graduated in 1941.

Virgil was united in marriage to JoAnn Engelkes on August 12, 1947, at Wellsburg Reformed Church in Wellsburg. Virgil was employed by Montgomery Ward Co. for many years in several locations. He then managed a furniture store in Forest City. In 1967, Virgil and JoAnn moved to Grundy Center where Virgil had been employed by Frederick Furniture ever since. He semi-retired in 1989.

Virgil joined the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center on December 17, 1967. He was an active member, serving 18 of his 26 years of membership as an ordained officer of the church.

Virgil had many interests, including gardening, the Cubs, tolerating golf, birds, and most of all his grandchildren and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife JoAnn; two sons, Mark and wife Priscilla of Iowa City, and Paul and wife Jan of Grundy Center; 6 grandchildren; Joshua, Thomas, Leigha, Nathan, Andrew and Anne; and one brother, Verne Eberline and wife Orene of Wellsburg.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the arrangements.
