Services For C. L. Huisman Held In Ames

Charles L. Huisman, 58, 1304 Curtiss Ave., Ames, died of cancer Thursday, August 8, at his home. Services were held Monday, August 12, at 2 p.m. at the United Church of Christ (Congregational) with the Rev. Henry Campbell officiating. Burial was in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Charles Huisman was born August 6, 1927, in Wellsburg, to Frank and Grace (Iblings) Huisman. He graduated from Wellsburg High School in 1944. From 1945 to 1947 he served in the U.S. Navy. On July 9, 1949, he married Joyce Marie Larson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

He graduated from Iowa State University in 1951. He was an employee of the Department of Transportation for 35 years as an engineer in Construction Administration, Central Office Maintenance, and served the last eight years as Office Director and State Materials Engineer. He was a licensed engineer for the State of Iowa.

He was a member of the Association of Asphalt Paving Technologists, member of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials and served as vice chair of the Subcommittee of Materials. He was a member of several committees of the Transportation Research Board.

He was a 30-year member of the United Church of Christ, Congregational. He was church moderator and served on many committees. At the time of his death, he was on the Board of Trustees.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce; his mother, Mrs. Grace Huisman of the Presbyterian Home in Ackley; two daughters, Linda Thomas and Laura Huisman, both of Ames; two sons, Tom of Bartlesville, OK, and Ted of Marshalltown.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.

A memorial fund has been established and gifts may be sent to the home.
