Ernest Schmidt, Reinbeck Man, Found Dead in Bed

Ernie Schmidt, who spent the greater share of his life in Reinbeck, was found dead in bed at the home of his son in Waterloo last Wednesday morning. It is believed death was due to a heart attack. He had suffered two heart attacks previously.

Funeral services were held on Saturday at the French funeral home in Reinbeck.

Mr. Schmidt was forced in 1950 to cease employment at Wilson & Co. where he had worked for 14 years, because of a heart ailment. The couple then sold their home and moved to Waterloo.

Ernie was born in Germany, the son of Ernest and Agnes Schmidt, at Wasleben, Brandenburg, on June 30, 1891, and came alone to the United States to Reinbeck in 1913. He worked one year on a farm, and then took employment at the Gethmann brick manufacturing company, where he worked for many years. He had worked for Wilson & Co. for 14 years.

He is survived by his widow; one son, Richard; two grandchildren; also one sister, Mrs. Robert Petersen of Mason City, and relatives in Germany. He was preceded by his parents, and three infant children buried in the Reinbeck cemetery.
