Manne M. Bakker, a lifelong resident of Grundy county and a former Grundy County Supervisor, died at his home at Reinbeck last Friday, following a long illness from cancer. He and his wife had been spending the winter months in Florida for several years. A year ago the past winter he was taken sick there. He had been in a Waterloo hospital a number of times since until the family were told a few months ago that there was no cure for his ailment and he was returned to his home. He was 67 years old.

He was born on a farm at Lincoln Center October 26th, 1886. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Manne M. Bakker Sr. He grew up on the farm at Lincoln Center, and attended school there. After completing the course at the Lincoln Center school he later attended college at Dubuque and the State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. While attending college at Dubuque he met his first wife, Alta Ternell, and was married in Dubuque. The couple, after their marriage, began housekeeping on a Lincoln township farm. A few years later, Mr. Bakker purchased a farm adjoining the town of Morrison on the east and he and his family moved there. The first wife died in July, 1935. There were two sons from this marriage, one of whom, Louis, died at the age of 23. In May, 1941, Mr. Bakker was married a second time to Mrs. Luva Dalton.

Mr. Bakker and his family resided on their farm at Morrison until a few years ago when they purchased a home in Reinbeck where they have since resided.
