A. D. Posekany Dies In California
August D. Posekany passed away Dec. 19 at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Alice Martin in Los Angeles, Calif., after a long illness.
He was born Aug. 27, 1872 at Cetoras in Bohemia, the son of Frank J. and Marie Posekany. He came to America in 1882 to the home of his uncle at Chelsea, Ia. He worked on farms in the vicinity until 1897 when he started working for the Milwaukee Railroad.
July 5, 1898 he was married to Alvina Grunewalt and they made their home at Irving, Ia., where he was employed with the Chicago Northwestern Railroad. In 1907 he was transferred to Dike as section foreman for the Chicago Northwestern. They were the parents of 11 children, one child having died in infancy.
Mr. Posekany retired in 1939 when he received his pension.
His first wife preceded him in death in 1925 and he later married Clara Lane, who also preceded him in death in 1950. He was a member of the Methodist church, a 50 year member of the Odd Fellow Lodge, a member of the Elks and IOOF Patriarch Militant at Cedar Falls.
He leaves six daughters, (Mary) Mrs. Henry Boike of Dike, (Edna) Mrs. Earl Bast of Ionia, (Agnes) Mrs. Leroy Watson of Waterloo, Alice Martin of California, (Frances) Mrs. Leonard Bast of Waverly and (Emily) Mrs. Jerome Landau of Cedar Falls; four sons, Charley and Lester of Dike, Leonard of Reinbeck and Ralph, New Hartford.
The body arrived from California Thursday night and was at the Dahl Funeral Home in Cedar Falls. Prayer service was held there Friday afternoon at 1 o'clock and at 1:30 at the Dike Methodist church with Rev. L. J. Runion officiating. Burial was at Elmwood cemetery in Dike.
