Shirley Jaspers, age 82 of rural Steamboat Rock, died on Monday, June 19, 2017 at Unity Point (Allen Hospital) in Waterloo. Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, June 23rd at the Presbyterian Church in Steamboat Rock with burial in the East Friesland Cemetery, rural Ackley. Visitation will be 5-7 P.M. Thursday at the Sietsema Funeral Home in Ackley.
Shirley M. Jaspers was born on February 27, 1935 in Cleves, Iowa, the daughter of Obbie and Mathilda (Aikes) Harms. She went to Country School Clay #1 and graduated from the Steamboat Rock High School. On July 23, 1954 Shirley was united in marriage to Harold Allen Jaspers at the East Friesland Presbyterian Church, rural Grundy County. Their son, Arlan, was born on August 3, 1966.
Shirley was a devoted wife and homemaker. She was a member of the Steamboat Rock Presbyterian Church, Ladies Aid Society, and the church choir, and a member of the Iowa River Boat Club where she helped serve Sunday morning breakfast. Shirley enjoyed gardening, especially her flowers, going to auctions, and her pet dogs. Shirley also worked a number of jobs in the area, including a cook for the Eldora Hospital.
Shirley is survived by her husband of 62 years, Harold; a son, Arlan Jaspers of Sheldon; a grandson, Joshua Jaspers and his wife, Ashley of Le Mars; great-grandson Brody Jaspers, and great-granddaughter Brooklyn Jaspers, of Le Mars; a brother-in-law, Ivan Jaspers and wife Mary of Eldora; a sister-in-law, Marge (Jaspers) and husband Horst Hohenhaus and family of Germany; nieces and nephews, Randy and Kristy Jaspers and family, Connie and Don Rose and family, Becky and Michael Carman, Deb and Toby Gordon and family; and cousins, Virgil Harms and family, Luella VanWey and family, Nettie and Raymond Daniels, Cecilia Fistler, John Harms, Gladys Geiken, Mary Kay Kirchner, Al and Vicky Shipp, Barbara Kielman, and Jill Nelson, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
