Hasbrouck--Died on Sunday, May 28th, 1881, of spinal fever, Harrie, son of Freeman and Catharine Hasbrouck, aged one year and five months.
"Only a cluster of faded flowers,
Brown-and dry-and dead!
Only a mem'ry of by-gone hours,
And of days forever fled.Only a cluster of violets blue,
Tied with a wiry thread;
Only a glimpse of the love that grew
'Neath the fragrance their petals shed.Only a cluster of faded flowers?
My God! that their delicate stems
Should outlive the love of my life,
These, the fairest of nature's gems.Only a cluster of faded joys,
Tied with hope long dead;
Only a life with hope gone out,
And filled with sorrow and dread.Only a creature of God's own make,
Waiting with patience dreas;
Only a faith which no sorrow can shape
In the love of a Father dear."--The Argus (Grundy Center, Iowa), 2 June 1881, pg 3
