Funeral services for Rev. John W. Christy, 85, of Davenport, will be 11:00 am on Wednesday at Faith United Church of Christ. Family will greet friends on Wednesday from 9:00 am to service time at the Church. Burial will be 11:30 am on Thursday at Grant Township Cemetery, Reinbeck, Iowa.

John passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Crest Health Care, Davenport.

John Wick Christy was born on January 3, 1927, in Winding Gulf, West Virginia, the son of Harry and Ethel (Malony) Christy. He married Marilyn Mitchell in 1951 at Amity Church in Reinbeck, Iowa. John attended Tarkio College where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. He also attended Dubuque Seminary and Drake Divinity School where he received a Bachelor of Divinity Degree. John also received an honorary Doctor of Divinity from Tarkio College in 1973. He served as a minister in Iowa for the Ryan Congregational Church, Union Community Church, Manson Congregational United Church of Christ, Nashua Little Brown Church in the Vale, and the Green Mountain United Church of Christ and Chapel United Methodist Church. His ministry spanned 47 years. He retired in 1992.

John was a past member of Kiwanis in Manson, Iowa and Lion’s Club in Green Mountain, Iowa. John was a member of Faith United Church of Christ, Davenport, Iowa since his retirement. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife Marilyn of Davenport; daughters, Janet (Darwin) Folden of Manson, IA, Colette (Daniel) Arnold of Farmington, N.M., Sharon Christy of Farmington N.M., Caroline (Bill) McCoy of Topeka, KS; sons, Mark (Rebecca) Christy of Davenport, Philip (Susan) Christy of Henderson, NC; 11 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren, and a sister, Urania Christy Tarbet of Pollock Pines, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
