Services Held Monday For Fritz Beckman

Fritz Otto Beckman of Wayzata, MN, and formerly of Grundy Center, passed away at 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday, December 15, at the Hillcrest Retirement and Health Care Center in Wayzata, MN.

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center on Monday, December 21, at 1:30 p.m. Rev. Glenn R. Dieken officiated.

Merle Mamminga sang "How Great Thou Art" and "The Lord's Prayer." He was accompanied by Mrs. Glenn R. Dieken, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

The casket bearers were Steven Haworth, Michael Beckman, Jeffrey Beckman, Fred Tunks and Otto Tennant.

The ushers were Floyd Rouse and George Hauser. Mrs. Ernest Blythe and Mrs. Paul Slinker were in charge of the floral arrangements.

The committal services were held immediately following the funeral service. Relatives and friends were invited to remain at the church following the services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Entombment was in the Beckman Family Mausoleum at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Grundy Center.

Mr. Beckman was born on July 5, 1888, on the Beckman family farm in Palermo township, Grundy county, the son of Otto W. and Abigail LaGrant Beckman. He attained the age of 99 years, five months and 10 days.

He graduated from the Grundy Center High School in 1905, and later attended the Waterloo Business College, until his father's death.

On August 7, 1930, he was united in marriage to Lana Pabst. He was engaged in farming in his early years and later in life he was a fuel oil distributor.

On June 22, 1971, his wife Lana passed away. He continued to live in Grundy Center until 1976, when he moved to Edina to be with his daughter's family, later becoming a resident of the Hillcrest Retirement and Health Care Center.

He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church and had served the church as an Elder.

A memorial service will take place on January 2, 1988, at 1:30 p.m. at the Hillcrest Retirement and Health Care Center in Wayzata, MN.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers, and one sister.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and C. Dale Haworth of 4602 Golf Terrace, Edina, MN; one son and daughter-in-law, Fritz L. and Ann Beckman of Arcadia, CA; and by six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
