Elsie Jean Wilson, 78, of Grundy Center, IA, went home to her Lord on Wednesday, November 9th 2016 at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital in Grundy Center while under the care of Cedar Valley Hospice. A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 14th at 10:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center with Pastors Mike & Sheryl Campbell officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 13th from 2 to 4 PM at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Interment will follow the funeral service at the Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family where they will donate to a charity of their choice at a later date.

Elsie Jean was born on December 13, 1937 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, the daughter of Bruce & Jean (Steadman) Brockway. Elsie Jean and her family relocated to Grundy Center in the late 1940's, after her father's service in the military. She attended school in Grundy Center, graduating with the Grundy Center High School class of 1955. On November 3rd 1956, Elsie Jean was united in marriage to Everett Wilson at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center. She and Everett were overjoyed to welcome son Edwin into their family. For 37 ½ years, Elsie Jean worked as an Administrative Assistance for the Grundy County Iowa State Extension Office.

Elsie Jean had a love for music. For many years, she served as the church choir director at the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center and later as the bell choir director and choir member at the First Presbyterian Church in Grundy, where she was a current member. Elsie Jean also spent many years with the Waterloo Metropolitan Chorale. She was known for sending cards to her family and friends, whether it was for their birthday or anniversary or other special occasion. Elsie will be dearly missed by her family and friends she leaves behind.

Elsie Jean is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Everett of Grundy Center; son Edwin (Angela) Wilson of Waukee, IA and grandchildren Faith, a freshman at Drake University & Cole, a Junior at Waukee High School; siblings Bill (Carol) Brockway of Seattle, WA, Dianne (J) Abels of Papillion, NE, Bette (David) Ota of Durham, NC, Linda (Delmar) Meester of Aurora, IL, Beth (Roger) Bockes of Grundy Center, IA, Cheryl (Stephen) Ford of Black Diamond, WA and Edwin "Buddy" (Pam) Brockway of Washington, IL; sisters-in-law Kay Zegarac of Phoenix, AZ and Sandy (Jim) Oulman of Lakeland, FL; 9 nieces and 9 nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
