Reka R. Flater, 85, of Grundy Center, passed away on Sunday, January 15th at the Country View Care Center in Waterloo. A joint funeral for Reka and her husband Marlyn will be held on Tuesday, January 17th at 1:00 PM at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. The burial will take place at the Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center with immediate family present. Memorials may be directed to Unity Point Hospice.

Reka was born on August 9, 1931, on a farm in Beaver Township, Grundy County, Iowa, the daughter of Rieke and Etta (Miller) Seehusen. She grew up on the family farm, where she attended school, graduating from Dike High School in 1950. On February 20, 1952, she married Marlyn Flater at the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in rural Holland, IA.

She worked at a greenhouse in Grundy Center for many years doing floral arrangements, taking orders and making some pick-up and delivery runs to Petersen and Tietz Greenhouse. She also worked at Birdsell's grocery store for a short time and took a job in the janitorial department at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, where she retired.

Reka was a member of the Prairie Lakes Church in Cedar Falls, where she was involved in some mission trips and was a former member of the Colfax Center Presbyterian Church in Holland. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, flower arranging, crocheting, arts and crafts and playing the bells at Country View. Reka enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her sister Grace Ennenga and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Marlyn by only 4 days; her parents; 4 brothers John, Koert, George and Jake; sister Etta and one younger sister they called 'Little Etta'.
