Marlys Bohlen, 71, of Wellsburg, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Funeral services will be 10:30 am Monday, December 4, 2017 at the Ackley United Methodist Church. Burial will be at the Wellsburg Reformed Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-4 pm on Sunday, December 3 at the church. Woodley Funeral Home, LLC of Iowa Falls is caring for Marlys and her family.

Marlys Fae Bohlen was born on February 10, 1946 in Wellsburg, Iowa to Abe and Edith (Geiken) Murra. She graduated from Wellsburg Community Schools. On July 1, 1961 Marlys was united in marriage to Verle Bohlen in Ackley, Iowa. She worked many years as an operator and manufacturer and most recently as head cook at the school system.

Marlys and Verle loved to go camping and fishing and did so for many years. She liked to shop and enjoyed following sports, especially basketball. Family always came first to Marlys and it showed through the love she gave her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marlys Bohlen is survived by her husband, Verle Bohlen of Wellsburg, Iowa; a son, Verlynn (Diane) Bohlen of Hanahan, South Carolina; a daughter, Darla (Dan) Barkhoff of Grundy Center, Iowa; grandchildren, Justin (Melinda) Barkhoff of Grundy Center, Iowa, Travis Barkhoff and Miranda Henningsen of Waterloo, Iowa, Ricky Wooten of Goose Creek, South Carolina and Tommy Wooten of Summerville, South Carolina; great-grandchildren: Michael Barkhoff, Sadie, Brandon and Lindsey Wooten, Jacob and Cora Wooten; brothers, Duane Murra of Wellsburg, Iowa and Clarence Murra of Wellsburg, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Norma Tack of Osage, Iowa.
