Edward Wayne Marks, 88, of Holland, passed away at his home on Thursday, March 23, 2017 following 2 years of battling congestive heart failure and chronic kidney failure. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 28th from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 29th at 10:30 AM at Bethany Presbyterian Church where visitation will continue one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow services at the Rosehill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Edward was born the son of Luke & Henrietta (Bulthuis) Marks on October 11, 1928 in Stout, Iowa, and received his education in the Dike School System. He was drafted into the U.S. Marine Corps in 1952 and upon return, started working for the Townsend & Merrill Lumber Company (later known as Ubben Building Supplies) and retiring from Farmers Cooperative Company in Dike, after 20 years.

On May 5, 1956, Edward was united in marriage to Lillian Mae DeVries at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center, Iowa. They lived most of their married life in Dike, moving to their current home on Highway 14 in 1991.

Edward was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Deacon, Trustee, Usher, Catechism teacher and sang in the church choir for 35 years. He was a member of the Dike American Legion Post #471 for 62 years and served as Sergeant at Arms, never missing a military funeral of his comrades or a Memorial Day Program.

He was a member of the Twin-Town Barbershop Chorus for 16 years and the "Sounds of Plenty" quartet for 8 years. Edward enjoyed hunting in southern Iowa and fishing trips to Canada. He showed great interest in his grandchildren and their growing up through their college years. He enjoyed hours just working around their home which he called his "little farm."

Edward is survived by his wife of 61 years, Lillian of Holland; sons James (Paula) Marks of New Hartford, IA and John (Karen) Marks of Dike, IA; 5 grandchildren Evan (Lindsay) Marks of Cedar Falls, IA, Ehren (Ashley) Marks of Dike, IA, Christopher (Lindsey) Marks of Boston, MA, expecting twins-a boy and a girl, Stephanie (Opoku) Busia of Long Island, NY and Elizabeth (Joseph) Thoman of Monroe, WI, expecting another girl in July; 5 great-granddaughters Clare and Madelyn Thoman and Lillian "Lilly", Anna and Edylan "Edy" Marks; 3 sisters Lillian Gast of Dike, IA, Ruby Danielson of Hampton, IA and Lorraine Nelson of Mountain Home, AR.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers-in-law Gale Gast and Donald Danielson.
