Mr. Thos. Bradford died at his home in Clay township last Saturday evening, at the age of fifty-six years, after a lingering illness with cancer of the stomach. Deceased was born in New York City, and in early life moved with his parents to JoDavies county, Illinois, where he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Elenor in 1866. In 1861 he enlisted in the army and served until the close of the war, taking part in seventeen hard fought battles and twenty-three skirmishes. In the year of 1868 he moved to Grundy county and lived for a short time on a farm in Melrose township and then settled on the farm where he lived until the time of his demise. Mr. Bradford was a man of jovial disposition, well thought of by his neighbors and those with whom he had business transactions. He leaves a wife, one son, Mr. Ellis Bradford, of Centerville, S.D. and one daughter, Mrs. Clark Martin, to mourn his death. Funeral services were held at Bethel church Monday afternoon and were in charge of the Beaman G.A.R., of which Mr. Bradford was a member. A large concourse of friends followed the remains to their last resting place in Alice cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Stevens, Treasurer, and Mrs. John White and Mr. John Gray drove down from Grundy Center to attend the funeral.
