Obituary
Miss Edith M. Burns, oldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. J. D. Burns, died of heart failure at the home of her parents in Grundy Center, Wednesday, Dec. 20, 1899, aged twenty-five years, three months and six days.
Although Edith had not been enjoying good health for some time, no one thought her seriously ill and her sudden death was a surprise and shock to her parents and friends as they had been making preparations for the Christmas festivities. Deceased was a member of the Baptist church and B.Y.P.U., and the funeral services, held Saturday, Dec. 23, at the home, were conducted by her pastor, Rev. C. H. Marsh, whose remarks were in harmony with the profession she made and the Christ she loved. "She is not dead but sleepeth." Dr. S. N. Fellows of the M.E. church, assisted in the services and a quartet from the Baptist church sang appropriate hymns. A large number of friends and neighbors assembled to pay tribute to the dead and many beautiful flowers surrounded the casket.
Two sisters, Mrs. Geo. E. Morphy of Grinnell, and Mrs. Will Scott of this city, are left to mourn her death and comfort the father and mother. The family have the sympathy of a large circle of friends in their bereavement.
