Obituary of Mrs. Lighter

Elizabeth Ann Long was born March 26, 1820, in Frederic county, Maryland, and died March 17, 1899, in Grundy county, Iowa, aged 78 years, 11 months and 20 days.

She was married to Solomon Lighter in 1841. They lived in Maryland until 1845 when they moved to Carroll county, Illinois, settling near Mt. Carroll. In 1865 they moved to Grundy county, Ia., and began the home where they both lived until their death. Her husband died in 1889. She was converted in 1868 and immediately was baptized and united with the Church of God, in the fellowship of which she lived until death came. The service of the Lord was to her a constant source of joy and very few persons of her age are so often found in the house of God. She was possessed of a cheerful, patient disposition, a heart that warmed toward all and sought to do good to all as far as it was in her power to do. She died rejoicing in the faith of the Christian, praying and praising God to the last. She would join in the songs that were sung by her bedside when her voice was so weak as to be scarcely audible.

The funeral services were held at the Alice church, Sunday, March 19, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. J. C. Kepford preached an able discourse from Job 23:10 to a large company of neighbors and friends, after which kind hands bore her to her last resting place in the cemetery near by.

She was the mother of eleven children, four of whom died in infancy. The seven who are living to mourn the loss of a good mother are Oliver H., John J. and Mrs. Mary Martz, who live near the old home, Mrs. Virginia Deitrick of Conrad, Ia., Mrs. Indiana Stoddard of Colorado Springs, Colo., Mrs. Nimrod of Tiff City, Missouri, and Dr. Lilly Dale Lighter of Toledo, Ia.
