Elizabeth Smith was born in Lunenburg, Vermont, Sept. 13, 1814, and died April 13, 1898, aged 83 years, 7 months.
Deceased was converted when about sixteen years of age and united with the Baptist church at Lunenburg. She lived a consistent christian life until the close of her earthly pilgrimage. She was married to Lyman H. Bowker June 11, 1835. They emigrated to Illinois in 1857, where they resided until 1884, when they came to Grundy county, Iowa, and resided with their daughter, Mrs. Fannie LaRue, at whose home the aged mother passed from labor to reward Wednesday, April 13, 1898.
To Mr. and Mrs. Bowker were born eleven children, seven of whom with their father, survive.
For many years Mother Bowker was in poor health and sad affliction, from which death hath released her captive soul, and we trust she has been borne home to the beautiful land on high where she rests from her labors and watches and waits for loved ones to come.
The funeral services were held at the Melrose church on Friday, April 15, conducted by Rev. E. Lee of Whitten, Iowa. A large number of old acquaintances and friends were present to pay their last tribute of respect for the departed.
