James E. Day died at the home of his parents Saturday morning, Jan. 29, 1898, after a lingering illness with consumption, which slowly but surely worked on his life's vitals for eight months. Nearly a year ago he went with his sister to Minnesota, but finding that climate too severe for him he returned home about seven weeks ago where he received tender and loving care until he was called to answer the summons of death. James was born in Southern Wisconsin Jan. 21, 1874. He was converted and united with the M.E. church about six years ago and has ever since lived a conservative christian life. The remains were laid to reset in the Vinton cemetery by kind and sympathizing friends last Sunday afternoon, services being conducted by Rev. E. Lee of Whitten.
