Obituary of Grandmother Lynn

Courier: Miss Violinda A. Skillman was born in Lowden county, Virginia, May 12, 1814. Here she lived for thirty years, after which she lived a year and a half in West Virginia, and after this she had her residence for about the same length of time in Cumberland, Md. From that place she moved to Pennsylvania, where she resided for eleven years. From there she returned to the place of her birth in Virginia. During the year 1883 she came to Iowa and has made her home almost all the time since in Reinbeck. She died in this city Jan. 4, 1898, at a few minutes before 7 a.m. At the time of her decease she was 83 years, 7 months and 23 days old.

Nov. 1st, 1931, deceased was married to James F. Lynn, with whom she lived happily until the year 1861 when her beloved companion was taken at the age of 59. Since that time Grandmother, as we loved to call her, has found a pleasant home with her children. The children born to Mrs. Lynn were ten in number, three daughters and seven sons. Of this number one daughter and two sons are deceased. There were four of the living present at the funeral. Owing to sickness the others could not be present. Mrs. Lynn was raised a Baptist. About 27 years since she united with that denomination and has ever since walked worthy of her high calling. She was a kind neighbor, an affectionate mother, beautiful in age, peaceful in death.

Short services were held at the Congregational church Friday morning at 9:30, and then the remains were taken to Grundy Center by train where funeral services were held in the Baptist church, and burial took place in the cemetery there.
