Grundy Lieutenant Missing In Action In Europe
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Haskins, living in the northwest part of Grundy county, have received word from the war department that their son, Lieut. Morris Haskins, 24, is missing in action since September 27. He was pilot on a bomber serving overseas. He had been on 11 raids, mostly over France.
He received his wings at Ellington Field, Texas, October 8, 1942, and was married the following day to Margaret Goldberry, who has been principal of one of the Iowa Falls schools for several years. Lieut. Haskins wife received a letter recently from one of the men in her husband's squadron in which he stated that the last he saw of Lieut. Haskins he was headed into a bank of clouds with one engine of his plane on fire. There is a chance he may have been able to bail out; if so, he may be a German prisoner.
The Haskins family formerly lived in Felix township, where the missing pilot was born on a farm.
