Obituary

Mrs. Augusta Schaefer, a daughter of Ernest Strassburger, was born in Sheboygan county, Wisconsin, August 26, 1858, and died at her home in Stout August 1, 1908. She was ill for a long time and altho the physicians were apparently quite successful in eliminating the chronic complications, her heart failed and she died very unexpectedly. She spent her maiden days in Wisconsin, and at the age of twenty-four was married to the Rev. D. Schaefer. Rev. Schaefer accepted his first call to Norwood, Carver county, Minnesota, and after five years of faithful service, in the spring of 1887, they moved to Titonka, Kossuth county, Iowa. June, 1893, they went to make their home in the parsonage two miles west of Fern. Here the deceased made many friends. They made their last home in Stout, where they have lived since May 6th.

To the union of Mr. and Mrs. Schaefer were born five children, three boys and two girls.

The deceased was the first one to be buried on the new Stout cemetery. The funeral took place on Wednesday August 5th. Rev. Theilken from Belmond delivered a very able address in the German language and Rev. Janssen from Chapin addressed the people in the English language. Six ministers acted as pall-bearers. About 650 friends from near and far were present to pay their last respect to the departed.
