Wilmka Heerts Dies At Advanced Age

Miss Wilmka Heerts died Thursday afternoon at her home in Grundy Center from complications due to advanced aged. She was 87 years old on the 23rd of last November.

She was born in Germany. She came to this country with her parents when she was 3 years old. They were among the early settlers in Grundy county. The family established a home on a Grundy county farm and the children all grew up there. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Heer Heerts. Following the death of her parents, Wilmka Heerts made her home with her brother Will and his family on a farm a short distance west of Holland. Following the death of her brother she continued to make her home with the Heerts family on the family farm. In 1945 she and her sister-in-law, Mrs. William Heerts, moved into a home in Grundy Center. The sister-in-law died in September, 1952. Wilmka Heerts continued to live in the home with a niece.

Surviving is one sister, Mrs. Tonjes Meyer of Colfax township and several nephews and nieces.

Funeral services were held at the home at one o'clock Monday and later at the Colfax Presbyterian church. Burial was in the Colfax church cemetery. The services were conducted by Rev. Eekhoff.
