Former Grundy Woman Dies

Mrs. J. D. Murphy, Many Years Resident of Grant Township Passes Away

Cedar Falls, Feb. 20--Mrs. Catherine Murphy, 96, a pioneer resident of Grant township, Grundy county, died early Saturday evening at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. W. F. Murphy, 616 Sixth street west. She had been failing for two years and had been confined to bed several weeks.

Mrs. Murphy was born in County Cork, Ireland, and when 16 years old came to America with her parents who settled in Chicago, where she was married to J. D. Murphy, who died July 19, 1918. She is survived by five daughters, one son, 44 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. The surviving children are Mrs. W. F. Murphy and Mrs. Steven Bonn, of Cedar Falls; Mrs. Margaret Murphy, of Dike; Mrs. J. H. Smith, Mrs. J. P. Murphy and John F. Murphy, of Waterloo. Two sons and two daughters, C. J. H. and W. C. Murphy, Mrs. John McCoy and Mrs. George Murphy are deceased.

The funeral will be from St. Patrick's church tomorrow morning, conducted by Rev. J. C. Wieneke. Interment will be in Grant township.
