Mrs. John Meints Dies Monday; Funeral Thursday

Mrs. John Meints died Monday afternoon at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Barney Kruger, north of Holland. Her health had been declining for several months, due to advanced age. She would have been 83 years old had she lived until the 8th of next December.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at the Kruger home at 12:30 and later at the Colfax Presbyterian church. Rev. George Swalve will conduct the service. Burial will be by the side of the husband in the Colfax church cemetery.

Mrs. Meints' maiden name was Dena Andreessen. She was born in Eastfriesland, Germany, Dec. 8, 1858. She came to America with her sister in 1882 and made her home in Grundy county. On Mar. 18, 1885, she was married to John Meints. The couple began housekeeping on a farm north of Drake's church. This farm has remained in the family ever since. In 1912 Mr. and Mrs. Meints left the farm and moved to Holland. Mr. Meints died there on November 12, 1939. Mrs. Meints continued to reside in the family home until last spring when she was no longer able to take care of herself, after which she made her home with her children.

Mrs. Meints was the mother of three children. One of them died at an early age. The surviving children are one son, Uffe, and one daughter, Mrs. Barney Kruger. There are 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
