Rites Held Friday For Mrs. Hoodjer, Longtime Resident

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon for Mrs. John Hoodjer Sr., 81, longtime area resident, who died at her home 5 1/2 miles southwest of Wellsburg last Tuesday.

Rev. Bernard Visscher officiated the service, held at the home at 12:30 and later in the First Chr. Reformed church. Burial was in the Holland cemetery.

Casket bearers were Harlan Heikens, Leslie Hoodjer, Jake Bergman, Larry Everts, John E. Harms and Dennis Renken.

Music for the service was provided by the men's quartet of the First Christian Reformed church, consisting of Claus G. Primus, Willis Bakker, Harvey Eiten and Alfred Eiten. Mrs. Henry Vandevoort Jr. was organist and Mrs. Claus G. Primus pianist.

Flower attendants were Mrs. George Blythe and Mrs. Primus.

Obituary
Mrs. Jennie Hoodjer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Heronimus, was born on December 22, 1880, in Ostfriesland, Germany. She came to this country at the age of 12 years.

On Feb. 23, 1903, she was married to John Hoodjer in Holland, Iowa. They lived on a farm north of Holland until 1935, when they moved to a farm 3 1/2 miles southwest of Wellsburg. In 1943 they moved to their home on the Harry Heikens farm where they have lived ever since.

Mrs. Hoodjer made profession of her faith in the Lutheran church of Holland, Iowa.

She and her husband celebrated their golden wedding anniversary on February 23, 1953.

Five years ago Mrs. Hoodjer fell and suffered the fracture of her hip and since that time had been in failing health. She passed away on Tuesday morning, March 13, 1962, at her home 5 1/2 miles southwest of Wellsburg, at the age of 81 years, 2 months, 21 days.

Those who preceded her in death were her parents, two children in infancy, 3 sisters and 2 brothers.

Those who survived are: her husband, John Hoodjer Sr., 6 daughters: Effie, Mrs. Harm Buskohl of Grundy Center; Jennie, Mrs. Joe Bergman of Grundy Center; Katie, Mrs. John Harms of Sheffield; Dena, Mrs. Harry Heikens, Steamboat Rock; Tena, Mrs. Fred Everts of Dike; Grace, Mrs. Markley Renken of Parkersburg; one son, John R. Hoodjer of Wellsburg; 26 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
