Menno Nabbe Dies At Independence
Menno Nabbe died at the state hospital at Independence last Friday. His health had been failing for some time. He was taken to the state hospital a year and eight months ago. If he had lived until the 26th of this month he would have been 78 years old.
The body was brought to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Heiko Tiggelaar in Holland where funeral services were held early Tuesday afternoon and later at the Colfax Presbyterian church. Rev. Geo. Swalve had charge of the services. Burial was by the side of the wife in the Holland cemetery.
A Native of Netherlands
Menno Nabbe was born in the Netherlands in Europe. He was married there. In 1902 he and his wife came to America. They spent their first six months in this country in the oilfields of Texas, after which they came to Grundy county where they resided on a farm near here for 13 years. In 1915 they moved to Bemis, South Dakota. They remained there six years, after which they returned to Grundy county and made their home in Holland. Mrs. Nabbe died in August 1942.Surviving are two half-sisters. One of the sisters lives at Everly, Iowa, and the other in South Dakota.
