Obituary

Hankelena Freese nee Heeren was born in Holte, Ost Friesland, June 1st 1816 and died at her home in this city Saturday morning at 1:30 o'clock.

She was married to Wiart Freese April 20th 1845 in Rhaude. In 1864 she with her husband came to this country and settled in Ogle county, Illinois.

In 1869 they came to Grundy county Iowa and settled on a farm where they lived until about twelve years ago when they moved to Holland having lived here ever since. To them were born five children, three girls and two boys all of whom are living except one who died in Germany. They are A. Freese, Mrs. H. H. Frerichs, Mrs. H. P. Smit and Mrs. B. Buus. They have twenty-five grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Freese have lived together sixty-one years, and have celebrated four wedding anniversaries. She was sick with lung trouble but two weeks and was rational until the last day.

Short services were held at the home Tuesday at 1:00 o'clock after which the usual services conducted by Rev. Saalborn were held in the church. Interment was made in the Holland cemetery.

Obituary

Haukelina Freese, born Heeren, died at her home near Holland April 21st 1906 at the old age of nearly 90 years. She was born in Rhande, Ostfriesland, and was married to Weert Freese in the year 1845. There was born to them five children, two sons and three daughters, one of their sons died in Germany. In the year 1864 they emigrated to this country. They first moved to Ogle county, Illinois. In the year 1869 they moved to Grundy county, Iowa, where she lived until her death. She is survived by her husband, four children, twenty-five grandchildren, and twenty-four great-grandchildren. Her husband, Weert Freese, had a stroke of paralysis five days after her death and at this writing is very low.

The surviving children are Asjen Freese, Grundy Center, Mrs. Buus, Lenox, South Dakota, Mrs. H. H. Frerichs, Wellsburg, Mrs. H. P. Smit, Holland.
