Rites Saturday For Harm H. Frieling

Services were held Saturday for Harm H. Frieling, age 85, who passed away at the Beverly Manor Convalescent Center in Grundy Center, Wednesday, January 17, at 6 a.m. Death came as the result of an apparent stroke. Services, which were at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, were at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral home in Grundy Center. Burial was in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Pleasant Valley township, Grundy county, Iowa.

He was born December 14, 1887, in Bunde, Germany, the son of Harm J. and Meindine Rand Frieling. He came to Parkersburg from Germany in 1902 and then later moved to Holland. He became a naturalized citizen in 1911.

He married Mary Peters on March 2, 1914, west of Fern. He farmed in Grundy and Osceola counties, moving to Grundy Center in 1935. His wife preceded him in death December 14, 1967.

Harm continued living in Grundy Center, until 1969, when he lived at the home of his son, Ben, in Melbourne, Iowa. Beginning in June 1970, he became a resident at Beverly Manor in Grundy Center.

He is survived by three sons, Meinhardt of Reinbeck; Ben of Melbourne, and Herman of Hegins, Penn,; two daughters, Mrs. Arthur (Etta) Witte of State Center; Mrs. Henry (Ann) Wolff of Aplington; four brothers, Henry of Aplington, Leonard, Harm and Rinert, all of Germany; 14 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, one daughter, two brothers and four sisters.

Pallbearers were Roger Frieling, LaVern Wolff, Gary Wolff, Ben Frieling, Gary L. Frieling, and Ronald Saathoff.

Russell Kruse was the soloist, accompanied by Mrs. Raymond Appel. Rev. J. C. Ford of the First Baptist Church in Grundy Center officiated. Engelkes-Abels Funeral home was in charge of the services.
