Obituary of Heit J. Peters

Heit J. Peters, son of John and Effie Williams Peters, was born on a farm in Grundy county, Ia., March 26, 1882. He was united in marriage on March 3, 1908, with Miss Etta Meester. The family farmed in Grundy county and on Feb. 18, 1920, his wife, Etta, passed away. He continued to farm and on April 4, 1942, Mr. Peters was married to Mrs. Martha Viet. For the past several years they have made their home on a small farm 1 mile west of Parkersburg.

Mr. Peters was hospitalized at Allen Memorial hospital at Waterloo and about two weeks ago was taken to Allison Manor Nursing Home where he died early Sunday morning, May 27, at the age of 91 years and 2 months.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Etta; 4 brothers and 5 sisters. Surviving are his wife, Martha; 1 son, Henry of Eldora; 5 daughters, Etta (Mrs. Otto DeBeer) of Parkersburg; Tena (Mrs. Jack Essman) of Ackley; Minnie (Mrs. Herb Blohm) of Grundy Center; Martha (Mrs. John Niehaus) of Holland and Esther (Mrs. Ron Dickes) of Muscatine; two brothers, Jake of Parkersburg and John of Dike; 2 step-sons, Hilko and Bernard Viet of Ackley; 4 step-daughters, Wilma (Mrs. Merle Schultz) of Parkersburg; Francis (Mrs. Irvin Flessner) and Jennie Mae (Mrs. Delmar Janssen), both of Ackley, and Marlys (Mrs. Edwin Arends) of Wellsburg; 12 grandchildren; 13 step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and many other relatives.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon, May 30, at Bethel Lutheran church in Parkersburg with Rev. Paul Schaedig officiating. Interment was made in Pleasant Valley Reformed church cemetery, two miles west of Fern.
