Bernita Meester Services Held

Bernita E. Meester, of Grundy Center, passed away Sunday, August 6, at the Grundy Care Center, Grundy Center, of natural causes, having attained the age of 85 years, 3 months and 3 days.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, August 9, at the American Lutheran Church in Grundy Center at 1:30 p.m. with Pastor Solberg officiating. Burial followed in Pleasant Valley Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Grundy Center.

Memorials may be directed to the American Lutheran Church, Grundy Center.

Bernita Evelyn Meester was born May 3, 1910, near Fairfax, the oldest daughter of Dale Erwin and Alida May (Truesdall) Ward. She attended several public schools in Iowa and then attended the Iowa School for the Deaf in Council Bluffs.

On November 28, 1953, Bernita was united in marriage to Andrew J. Meester at Calvary Lutheran Church for the Deaf in St. Paul, Minnesota. Bernita helped Andy with his shoe repair business in Grundy Center for 30 years. She made her home at the Grundy Care Center in July of 1992.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Andrew on June 16, 1983; her parents; 2 brothers, Dalton Ward and Wayne Ward; and 2 sisters, Gwendolyn Likin and Nadine Ward.

Survivors include 1 sister, Marjorie Neudauer of St. Paul, Minnesota; and many other relatives and friends.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
