Death Claims Mrs. Thos. K. Meester; Funeral On Mon.
Funeral services were held at 12:30 p.m. Monday in the home and later in the Parkersburg Reformed church for Mrs. Thomas K. Meester, 72, who died at 11:50 a.m. Friday of a heart attack at her home in the east part of Wellsburg.
Burial was in the church cemetery in Pleasant Valley township.
Rev. Peter Koenen, pastor of the Bethel Reformed church, Aplington, was in charge of the services. Pallbearers were Henry, Duane, John J. and Lawrence Peters, John J. Meester and Meinhardt Frieling.
Mrs. Meester had been in poor health the past eight years, but her death came as a shock to her family, friends and the community.
Anna Peters was born Nov. 16, 1883, in Colfax township, the daughter of John and Etta Willemssen Peters. She was one of 11 children in the family.
On March 11, 1907, she married Thomas K. Meester, with Rev. Daniel Schafer, pastor of the Parkersburg Reformed church at that time, performing the ceremony.
The couple lived on a farm in Pleasant Valley township for 38 years before retiring in April, 1945. They then made their home in Wellsburg. Mr. Meester passed away on Oct. 26, 1950.
She is survived by eight children, Henry K. of Dike, Mrs. Etta Renken of Aplington, John of Holland, Mrs. Sam Paterni of Eldora, Mrs. Alle Murra, Herman, James and Johannes, all of Holland.
Five brothers and three sisters also survive, Heit Peters of Parkersburg, George of Greene, Alfred of Grundy Center, Jake of Cedar Falls, John of Dike, Mrs. John G. Meester of Wellsburg, Mrs. Harm Frieling and Dena, both of Grundy Center.
Mrs. Meester is also survived by 16 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.
