E. J. Engelkes Dies From Heart Attack

E. J. Engelkes died very suddenly Friday afternoon while visiting at the home of his sister-in-law, Mrs. Will Engelkes, in Grundy Center. He was stricken while seated in a chair and death followed almost instantly. He had been in good health previous to the time that he was stricken. He was 74 years old on the 27th of last month.

The body was taken to the Engelkes funeral home in Grundy Center where funeral arrangements were made. On Sunday the body was taken to the Engelkes home a mile north and a mile west of Fern.

Funeral services were in the home at 12:30 on Tuesday and later at the Pleasant Valley Reformed church two miles west of Fern. The services were conducted by Rev. Albert Moss. Burial was in the cemetery adjoining the church.

Resided In Grundy County Nearly All of His Life
Engelke John Engelkes was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Jan Engelkes. He was born on a Butler county farm, January 27, 1887. At the age of three weeks he came with his parents to the farm on which he lived during the remainder of his life. He was engaged in the management of the farm up to the time of his death. He was a member of a family of ten children. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Fred, Hillard and William. He never married.

Surviving are two brothers and four sisters. The brothers are Omke J. of Fern and Ben J. of Parkersburg. The sisters are Hattie, Mrs. Harry Klosterboer, of Grundy Center; Fannie, Mrs. Harm Vanderholt, Wellsburg; Anna, Mrs. Jake Rindels, New Hartford; Jennie, Mrs. Sievert VanHauen, Parkersburg.
