Elizabeth Meester Dies Suddenly; Heart Attack

Mrs. Elizabeth Meester died very suddenly shortly after seven o'clock at her home Monday morning from a heart attack. She had been up and had been doing some of the morning work in the kitchen when she suddenly collapsed and fell to the floor. Her cousin, Mrs. Minnie Schroedermier, who had been making her home with Mrs. Meester, was with her when she was stricken and she called in Mayor Albert Algood, who was near by, to help. A doctor was sent for, but life had passed out before he got there. County Coroner L. D. Coffman was called. He was satisfied death was due to a heart attack and no inquest was necessary. Mrs. Meester was 68 years old and spent all of her active life in this community. Mrs. Meester had not been sick. She had been afflicted with high blood pressure for a number of years and was urged to take things easy.

Funeral services are being held this afternoon at 1:30 at the home and later at the Linneman church west of Fern, with the local pastor, Rev. A. Linneman, officiating. Burial will be by the side of the husband in the Holland cemetery.

Mrs. Meester was born in Leer, Germany, June 6, 1877. She was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Von Sitters. She came to America with her parents in 1882 and they located in Grundy county which remained her home continually ever since.

On December 10, 1902, she was married to John F. Meester at the Pleasant Valley Reformed church. The couple made their home on a farm in Pleasant Valley township. Mr. Meester died April 16, 1933, and the following year Mrs. Meester bought a home in Holland and moved here.

Surviving are one brother, Henry Sitters from St. Paul, and two sisters, Mrs. Rene Orvis from Sumner, Iowa, and Mrs. John Dingle from Morrison.
