Mrs. T. Smidt Buried at Parkersburg

Mrs. T. Smidt, a former resident of Grundy county and of Parkersburg, who died last week at the home of relatives near Stewartville, Minnesota, was brought to Parkersburg, Friday morning, and short funeral services were held in the Block undertaking parlors, Rev. Russman and Rev. Plesscher conducting them, and the body was taken to the Siemsen church burial ground, where it was interred beside a son who died many years ago. Rev. Siemsen conducted the burial service. Mrs. Smidt was born in Germany, October 6, 1840, and was in her 83rd year at the time of her death. She was married to T. Smidt in Germany in 1860. To this union four children were born, three of whom are still living, one son dying in this country. Her husband died in Germany in 1872. With her children she came to America in 1885, settling on a farm in Grundy county, where she lived for a number of years. She moved to Parkersburg and lived here a short time, but for many years she has made her home in George, where her son, A. N. Smidt, has been living. She went to Stewartville a few months ago to visit her son, U. R. Smidt, and her granddaughter, Mrs. Menno Poppen, where her death occurred on the 25th of March. She suffered from a stroke of paralysis and never rallied. She leaves three sons, Theodore, living in Wyoming; U. R. Smidt, at Stewartville, and A. N. Smidt, at George, besides a number of grandchildren. Her sons, U. R. and A. N. Smidt, with their wives, were in attendance at the funeral.--Parkersburg Eclipse.
