J. J. Arends Dies Monday At Stout

J. J. Arends, who had resided all of his life in Grundy county, died at his home in Stout at 8:30 Monday evening. He had been afflicted with hardening of the arteries and had been in failing health for some time. He was 88 years old.

The body was taken to the Engelkes funeral home in Parkersburg, where funeral arrangements were made.

Funeral services will be Friday afternoon at the Reformed church in Stout. Burial will be in the Pleasant Valley Reformed church cemetery.

J. J. Arends was a son of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Arends, among the early residents of Beaver township. The family home was about a mile east of Fern. The family of ten children grew up there. J. J.'s mother died many years ago. There were five children from that family. Some time later the father, J. P. Arends, married again and five children followed that marriage.

J. J. Arends and Kate Poppen were married March 14, 1907. They lived on a Beaver township farm until 1939 when they moved to Stout.

J. J. Arends resided in Beaver township all of his life, on a farm until a number of years ago, when he and his wife moved to Stout.

Surviving are the wife, four daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. Richard Raske, near Fern; Mrs. Frank Luchtenberg; Mrs. Tom Myers, Stout; and Martha Arends, who is at home. The sons are Ernest and Joe from Stout. There are twelve grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters. The brothers are Joe and Arend from Fern; the sisters, Mrs. Claus Haren, Grundy Center, and Mrs. Trena Wirtjes, New Hartford.
