John A. Meyer

John A. Meyer of Pleasant Valley township died at his home Saturday morning at 6:00 o'clock.

Mr. Meyer had been sick for a number of years with emphysema of the gall bladder. He was the father of nine children, and was 51 years old.

He had two sisters, Mrs. Nan Vietor of Ackley and Mrs. Dick Niehaus of Parkersburg; and one brother, Ben Meyer of Aplington. One daughter is married, Mrs. Jake Meester.

The funeral was held from the home Monday afternoon.

Obituary of John M. Meyers

Johann Meinert Meyers was born on the 21st day of May, 1869, in Groszwolde, Ostfriesland, Germany, and died June 28th, 1919, in Pleasant Valley township, Grundy County, Iowa, U.S.A., aged 51 years, one month and three days.

He came with his parents to America in 1884 at the age of 16 yrs. settling in Pleasant Valley on the same farm on which he died.

He married Johanna Wirtjes on November 17, 1892. To this union seven children were born, six of whom and the widow survive him, one child dying in infancy.

He is also survived by one brother and three sisters.

The cause of death was gall stones complicated by inflammation of the bowels. The period of sickness was short, only fourteen days in length.

Mr. Meyers was a quiet non-assuming man, highly respected by all who knew him.

The sympathy of all the people of the community goes out to the family in their bereavement.
